KORANRUG PRIMARY – DARLING

Koranrug Primary is located approximately 4km’s outside Darling. The school consists of a two roomed building housing 45 learners from Grade 1 – Grade 6. One teacher is employed and Mr Matthews, the principal, takes on various administrative tasks, as well as, teaching the Grade 4 – 6’s. The following items are needed for the individual school children to enhance their school experience:

HOLVLEI PRIMARY – HOPEFIELD

Holvlei Primary is situated 6 km’s outside of Hopefield on the West Coast of Cape Town. Mr Witbooi is proud of his pupils, however, he wishes that he had the resources to improve their education. The following items are needed for the 2008 school year:

SKILPADVLEI PRIMARY – MORREESBURG

Skilpadvlei Primary is a delightful little school situated off a gravel road en-route to Moreesburg. The 45 learners at this school are longing for art supplies to be able to express their creativity which is seen in the way they have decorated their classroom. The following items are needed by this school:

NUHOOP PRIMARY – PORTERVILLE

Nu Hoop Primary is one of the prettiest and well maintained rural schools that FCIA has come across. The building consists of 2 classrooms, a remedial class, as well as, a Grade R class. The children are happy and friendly when we visited unannounced and clearly enjoyed being at school. The following items are needed to improve the extra-mural activities the school would like to be able to offer it’s pupils:

ERRIE MOLLER PRIMARY – WOLSELY

Errie Moller Primary is situated 8 km’s outside Ceres. While the exterior playground is maintained, the school is in desperate need of a coat of paint. These children are quite needy and while they are provided with lunch daily, there are various items that are much needed such as:

WELGEMOED PRIMARY - CERES

Welgemoed Primary is situated 40 km’s outside Ceres in the Warm Bokkeveld. The school consists of 38 learners who are in desperate need of many items. These children often come to school hungry and receive lunches three times a week. These lunches are also sometimes the only food that they receive. Children cannot be educated on empty stomachs. The following items are needed quite urgently:
- Food

FAIRFIELD PRIMARY – CERES

Fairfield Primary is a farm school situated 5 min’s outside Ceres. The principal Mrs Geldenhuys and her teachers are loving and caring towards their pupils. They definitely have the children’s best interests at heart and would like them to be able to partake in various sporting activities. The following items are needed at Fairfield Primary:

EZELFONTEIN PRIMARY - CERES

Ezelfontein Primary is a well maintained school with a beautiful garden and children who show an interest in the surrounding nature. Mrs Nasson is a motherly figure whom the children love as she makes each child feel special in some small way. A slightly larger school than most rural schools, however, one that is in dire need of the following items:

ACHTERTUIN PRIMARY - CERES

Achtertuin Primary, situated in the Warm Bokkeveld, is one of those schools which impresses one from a distance. The grounds are well maintained and the school buildings are kept neat and tidy. Mr Gatyene is warm and friendly and his enthusiasm for the school is infectious. He is trying to raise funds to build a school hall not only for the school, but for the community as well, and has had some help from the farmers in the surrounding area. The following items are needed by this lovely school:

RIVERSIDE PRIMARY – ROBERTSON

Riverside Primary situated on the outskirts of Robertson, is a school which has great sporting talent. They have a cross country running team, a rugby team, a soccer team, as well as, a cricket team who participate not only in local competitions, but nationally too. Most of these children have to walk between 4 – 5km’s each way to school and some do not have school shoes. Their fiery determination to be educated spoke volumes to us at FCIA. Mr Siljeur proudly showed off the schools sporting achievements and added that the following items were needed to carry on with their exemplary sporting abilities:

ZOLANI MISSION SCHOOL – ASHTON

Zolani Faith Mission was the only Christian based school that we visited. Every item in this school has been given by faith and the atmosphere is peaceful with the children being loving and happy. They love to entertain visitors and the teachers do a great job of inspiring and teaching these children. The following items are needed to make this bunch of children even happier:
- Fruit, oats, maize-meal, rice, pasta, potatoes
- 15 Mattresses, fitted sheets, pillows & pillowslips
- 2 x Gas burners
- Curtains & kiddies chairs
