School sports day at Koranrug Primary, Darling

On Saturday 8 March 2008, Koranrug Primary held their annual Sports Day.

Races were run on a gravel road through the vineyards in 36 degree heat and the athletes were barefoot. A makeshift finish line was made by drawing a line in the sand and small homemade flags completed the look.

A ‘hospitality tent’ was set up for the race co-ordinators consisting of learners mommies who were willing and excited to lend a hand. All the moms, dads, aunts, uncles and grannies were transported by cattle truck to the event and there was even live entertainment. (One of the grandfathers brought his guitar!)

There were the traditional three teams consisting of the Blue team, Red team and Green team. The children were competitive and at the end of the day, the Blue team was the overall winner. A special ‘Mommies & Daddies’ race was run much to the children’s delight.

FCIA with McDonald’s (Parklands) help supplied cold drinks to the thirsty runners. Gold medals were given to all 1 st place winners and certificates were handed out to all 2 nd and 3 rd place finishers. Party packs and hot dogs were handed out to all children who partook in the event.

A big thank you goes to Durrel Gibson for supplying the gold medals, McDonalds Parklands for the refreshments, Navy Green for the certificates, Beryl Skinner & Tracy Kimbrey for the party packs. Without your help this event would not have been a success.

An enjoyable fun filled day was had by all!
