SCARVES A-HOY!

FCIA was blessed with an abundance of scarves from knitters in the UK, USA, Australia and South Africa. Ruth Crocombe, a friend of mine, used her initiative and contacted her friends via her knitting blog and encouraged them to knit scarves for the ‘kids in Africa’. She has played a pivotal role in collecting the scarves and overseeing the knitting project. A huge thank you to you Ruth! Without you we would not have been able to bless the children at Skilpadvlei Primary in Moreesburg with these scarves.

On Thursday, 25 June, Beryl (my mom) and I travelled in the wintery wet weather to Moreesburg to deliver the scarves. It was the most fun I’ve had in a long time! We travelled on wet gravel roads with potholes that could do serious damage to my car, yet it was exhilarating. After the trip my silver polo looked like it had rolled in the mud. Note to self….purchase a 4x4 for these trips!

We received a warm welcome from the children at the school and it was an inspiration for us to see the way the school has moved forwards in the past few months. An overseas charity has donated new technology in the form of teaching equipment (proxima, screen & laptop) to assist the teachers to educate the children in an innovative way. Elmarie, the principal, has also sewed new tracksuits for the children and she provides them with food and any other necessities that they require.

In the 3rd term we will be taking our FCIA puppets out to the school for some outreaches and any volunteers who would like to assist with this would be more than welcome! Please contact me on 083 565 1454 for more information thereon.

I would also like to thank the knitters (find out names for their time and contribution. A thanks as well to Beryl, Mel and Durrel for the donation towards our next knitting project!

Love & Blessings
