Food for Thought is a programme which will begin in February 2008, whereby any interested party can either donate money, various items needed by the schools on their wish lists or volunteer time in the form of giving extra-mural classes, such as dance, puppetry, mime, music, hockey and cricket, enabling the children in the rural areas of South Africa to be exposed to different aspects of life such as the Arts and Sports.
Many children living in these areas of Cape Town, do not explore their creativity as they come from impoverished families, where there is no extra finances to allow them to partake in such activities and few schools do not have the additional manpower to facilitate such activities as their primary focus is to provide these children with a good education. By giving these children a chance to become involved in these programmes it will hopefully ignite something within them, whereby it will affect their future growth and decisions in life.
For example, by conducting a dance class consisting of hip-hop, ballet and contemporary dance on a weekly basis, a child who will develop this skill and persevere with it throughout his/her schooling may even end up dancing professionally or be able to give back to the community by opening future dance schools in these rural areas. In so doing, the community is uplifted, as well as, a skill which is passed onto future generations.
FCIA has teachers who are energetic and willing to assist with dance, puppetry, mime, drama, music, cricket and hockey.
